Offer Help to Those Who Suffer from Whiplash and Chronic Pain
Norwalk, CT – March 22, 2006 – Drs. Erik and Brenda Slovin, contributing authors to the book, Neck Pain Neck Pain returned Monday from a seminar which discussed the Newest Research on Whiplash and Chronic Pain. This seminar discussed the mechanisms of the accident itself, such as what is injured during a motor-vehicle-collision, and revealed the answer to the age old question, “can spinal injury occur where there is little or no vehicle damage”. This advanced seminar also looked at the effects on the body such as the immune system, vision, dizziness and cognition following a motor vehicle accident and reviewed the latest research on how chiropractic treatment inhibits whiplash trauma pain and positively affects the neurobiology of chronic spinal pain. Dr. Slovin stated: “There are different phases to the rear-end or whiplash-type injury. The movements of the occupant in the front of the car will go through four phases that take place between 0-100 milliseconds after impact, then another at 100-200 milliseconds after impact, then 200-300 milliseconds after impact and then finally 300-400 milliseconds after impact. The accident occurs so quickly that he/she is not even aware of the “whiplash” effect that is taking place.” Dr. Slovin says that there are some terrific research studies that are now being presented, from the top whiplash researchers in the world, that now prove that the amount of vehicle damage has absolutely no relevance to the amount of damage that the occupant endures during an automobile collision. “Automobiles are built in such a way that you can have a scratch or small dent on the bumper, but the occupant inside has suffered more than 37G’s of force.” Typical whiplash symptoms include: Pain to the neck and back, Headache, Blurred vision, Dizziness, Shoulder and arm pain, Jaw pain and a host of many other types of pain. “The quicker that the individual seeks treatment, the better the prognosis. Unfortunately, the lack of truly understanding the long term affects of such injuries prevents many individuals from seeking help. They decide to ‘live with it’ but don’t realize that they might be in for a future in which they will be suffering pain during normal activities of daily living.” says, Dr. Slovin. As a community service, Dr. Slovin will provide any community person a free report pertaining to whiplash and chronic pain and how it is treated. # # #
